TOCO SOCCER

MISSION

TOCO SOCCER’s objective is to support community organizations, youth programs and under-funded public schools with soccer balls, equipment and other gear to encourage children to engage in soccer programs throughout the Caribbean.

INSPIRATION

Built on the belief that one soccer ball can be not only a source of joy to a child but also improve health, confidence, self-esteem and self-discipline, TOCO SOCCER was inspired by Taj Weekes’ own childhood in St. Lucia, where he experienced first-hand the benefits of the game. Building these traits in children strengthens their ability to move through society with the knowledge that they can live beyond their circumstances and take responsibility for their own health and well-being, an important element in diabetes prevention, so prevalent in the Caribbean today.

PROJECTS

• TOCO SOCCER was launched in St. Lucia in June 2009, bringing hundreds of soccer balls, uniforms and equipment to both primary and secondary schools and local community groups on the island. Soccer balls, equipment, cleats, shin guards, socks, uniforms and practice t-shirts and shorts are being collected through individual donations and corporate sponsorships for ongoing distribution to children throughout the Caribbean islands.
